Max Payne 3 Review
Once again SPOILERS may appear! You have been warned.
We start this story with me playing a game, not just any game, a Rockstar game. Max Payne 3, they promised a cinematic experience. Well I can tell you now they do not disappoint! It's like being in the movie! Well not in the movie because your watching all the fun on a TV, but it's as close as we can get with the technology we have. Cut-scenes appear frequently, from beginning to end, essentially putting you straight into the action every time. Which is good in my opinion, not having any quick time events in the cut-scenes is a relief also. |
Graphics are top notch,
not overly realistic but still awesome. Didn't find any glitchy areas
of the game, no real problems to report in this aspect of the game.
One part I love about the feel of this game is the occasional fuzzy,
drunken, hazeyness you get whilst running about as Max, if you use
painkillers to heal it gets even fuzzier.
The sound within is a major part of the feel of this title. The music always reflects the action you participate in, fast and loud! Voice over from the man himself is ever present throughout, little witty comments, remarks about the décor and telling you to hurry the hell up. It always delivers to add to the cinematic air of the entire film...err game. |
Gameplay! The greatest part of this is defiantly the fun gameplay mechanics. Bullettime obviously features very heavily, it makes this game epic, the ability to jump into the air, slow don time then systematically take down about 10 bad guys, hitting the floor then time going back to normal and everyone just hits the floor. That makes you feel great! With plenty of different weapons to use, dual wielding a pistol and sawn-off shotgun was pretty useful. Bigger weapons like assault rifles and LMG's can only be used on there own but have a major advantage in certain situations. When you take out the last guy, a bullet cam starts, then you can riddle that guy full of lead!! Action packed sequences like sliding down roofs taking out guys and falling off a water tower doing the same. Yup this was defiantly a fun packed game filled with epic stuff!
Story wise it delivers an intense experience, with unpredictable twists and turns. It has a back and forth storyline, starting a little bit before the end, then jumping to the present, heading back into the past, back to present then back to the past again ect. Sounds confusing? Nope, not in the slightest, it all makes perfect sense. Great sequences on vehicles, especially one with a grenade launcher. Possibly the most fun in the entire game! Taking out cars left right and centre! Brilliant! |

If your a fan of the Max Payne series of games and are upset by the fact it is set in a sunny bright and very light filled Brazil, look past that and play the game. There is a good reason he did that stuff! Plus the majority of the game is him as he has always been, well minus the leather jacket for the most part. Tis a fun filled outing in Brazil!
Graphics 8/10 Sound 8/10 Story 9/10 Gameplay 9.5/10
Overall 9 bullets to already dead bad guys 10!
