I Am Alive Review
For an arcade game, I
am completely blown away by this title! The story is dark, the sound
is just tense and the gameplay is intuitive.
The save system is possibly the strangest thing about I Am Alive. You get a number of Re-Trys and it saves at specific points normally at the beginning of at least a half hour of gameplay. If you die, you use up a Re-Try and if you run out game over (well you start from the save point). You can get more from helping people, by giving them a precious item of yours. The items are few and far between, ammo is incredibly sparse. So use your items wisely!! Also you may find a mysterious meat, don't eat it! |
The climbing system is fantastic. A stamina bar is given to you, whilst your climbing it drains. You perform a special action, like jumping over a gap you lose more. If you run out of stamina (because you didn't judge the climb properly, you get a sort of final chance. The more you delve into this final chance the amount of stamina you have drains as well. So careful on them there ledges! You can replenish this loss with items you find.
My favourite aspect of I Am Alive is the combat system, psychologically based on the most part. No bullets in your gun? Just point it at your enemy and shout get back at them until they near a ledge or fire, then kick them into it! More than one enemy? Pretend your unarmed, let them get close and slice ones throat then pop off one other. Let the final one cower then knock him out! Yay, much fun! |
